Esta semana os presentamos un disco raro por dos cuestiones. Una por ser un disco poco conocido y difícil de encontrar. Segundo,  por su intérprete, considerado algo blando en cuestiones rockeras. Pero créanme, este disco merece la pena. 

"Ricky" es el primer Lp de Ricky Nelson. Además,  es uno de los pocos discos de rock and roll que consiguieron un importante éxito en un mercado dominado por el formato single. 

Para conseguir tal impulso se sirvió de su programa semanal. Actuaba en la televisión, en su propio show, con grandes cifras de audiencia: Ozzie and Harriet, un precursor espacio en forma de reallity, basado en la vida real de su propia familia. Los espectadores vieron crecer al pequeño Rick, pasando de ser un chico travieso y chistoso a un adolescente sentimental y enamoradizo. Empezó a cantar sus discos en sus propios capítulos. 

Ricky siguió hasta formar una orquesta, en la que estaba James Burton, que paso luego a colaborar con Elvis. 

El primer sencillo del disco Be bop baby. Una mezcla de pop rockero con gran aceptación en la época. Añadió en el repertorio dos canciones de tipos algo más duros en esto del rock and roll, como eran Carl Perkins y Jerry Lee Lewis. Sumando unas baladas populares para satisfacción de las jóvenes fans. Haciendo un disco fácil de digerir para los tiempos primeros del rock. Directo al número uno durante dos semanas en el último trimestre del 57. Vendiendo algo menos de quinientas mil copias.

 El disco para terminar fue grabado en Los Ángeles y contó con un equipo formado por: James Burton, Joe Maphis, James Kirkland y Richie Frost. 

La duración del disco, a pesar de contener doce canciones es escaso. Como todos los Lp's de la época ya que las canciones solían durar dos minutos escasos.
